Many of the PDF files here have been reduced in size and require version 9.0 or later of Adobe Reader (or an equivalent PDF reader) to view them. (Version 9.0 came out in 2008, and since then there have been several newer editions.) In most cases we have also changed the files to searchable format, if they were not already in that form.
Some items may have the file extension “.djvu”. These files require the WinDjView program to read them. This reader can be obtained for free at: http://www.windjview.sourceforge.net (Linux users have the capability to read .djvu files integrated into their PDF readers of the major desktops: Okular in KDE, Evince in GNOME.)

Lenin’s Collected Works:
- Notice! To provide access to Lenin’s Collected Works we formerly just linked to the Lenin section on Marx2Mao.com, but for a period in the Fall of 2020 that site was no longer accessible. This increased our concern about the threats of suppression of Marxist thought on the Internet. So we decided to also post these and other works from Marx2Mao on BannedThought.net and expressed the hope that other web sites would do the same. (We hope other people will also copy BannedThought.net materials to their sites, too.) In case Marx2Mao.com should disappear again, there is also a mirror for Marx2Mao at: http://marx2mao.phpwebhosting.com/

- “A Linguistic Philosopher Looks at Lenin’s Materialism and Empirio-Criticism”, by Antony Flew, Praxis journal [Yugoslav Ed.], 1967, No. 1, 15 pages. A confused and rather ridiculous attempt by a British “linguistic” philosopher to argue that Lenin too readily dismissed idealist philosophers because he did not take their point of view and their reasoning seriously! It is true, of course, that if you start from the idealist perspectives of Descartes, Hume, Kant, etc., then materialism of any sort will seem to be erroneous. Flew called himself a materialist (or “realist”) and an atheist for decades, but in his last years showed his own deep ambivalence and confusion about all that when he finally decided that he believed in God after all. Searchable PDF format [370 KB]
- “On Lenin’s Materialism and Empirio-Criticism”, by David Bakhurst, Studies in East European Thought (2018), No. 70, pp. 107-119. This article by a bourgeois academic rather grudgingly admits that the materialist (or “realist”) views championed by Lenin are correct, but then argues that they are not original and important, and that therefore Lenin was not really a philosopher of importance. Of course Lenin never claimed to be a professional philosopher, and the purpose of his book was to criticize idealist thinking within the revolutionary movement. But bourgeois commentators take exception to that political thrust too; apparently they see it as improper and pointless to criticize such ideological errors in a political movement, especially in the harsh way that Lenin did! Bakhurst then goes on to blame Lenin’s book for supposedly providing such a bad example during the Stalin era. Quite a silly article! Searchable PDF format [802 KB]

- Lenin’s Notebook: Lenin — On the State, preparatory material for the book The State and Revolution, written in January-February 1917, (Moscow: Progress, 1972), 144 pages. It shows how Lenin studied the topic of the state, reading not only works by Marx and Engels, but materials by others, including both real and dubious Marxist writers, and how he organized his notes into a book.
