The Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees, AFL-CIO was formed by the merger of two of the nation's preeminent and oldest unions, the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU).
- The United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE) is an independent, national union which was founded in 1936. It is composed of 40,000 members, including assembly workers, machinists, clerical workers, plastic injection molders, tool and die makers, custodians, truck drivers, warehouse workers, sheet metal workers, technical workers, public workers including social workers, scientists, librarians, toll collectors, day care workers, and hundreds of other occupations. - Left Business Observer: Accumulation and Its Discontents A great resource on the US economy, Left Business Observer is an eight-page monthly newsletter edited by Doug Henwood, author of Wall Street (Verso, 1997). This site has selected archived articles and excellent links within articles to relevant web pages. Henwood deserves special recognition for maintaining a critical Left voice in political economy, knowing the right issues to address, and understanding how to present his ideas.
