The Congress backed
notorious dacoit Sardar Khokan Mandal and his main associate Omar Sekh were
executed by the CPI(ML) [People’s war] guerrilla squad on 29th April 2000 at
Muktarpur of Karimpur P.S in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. A question
naturally arises who were these gangsters and why had they to face the wrath of
the people’s movement?
The two banks of
river Jalangi which flows through Muktarampur area has seen the emergence of
many ‘char jamin’ (land that has emerged due to the sedimentation of the
alluvial soil of the river bed. These lands are very fertile) These ‘charjamin’
have been illegally captured by the jotedars backed by the CPI(M) and Congress.
These no- man’s -land have become the fiefdom of these jotedars. The poor and
landless peasants of the area got enthused by the experience of armed peasant
resistance struggle of the adjacent Fagilnagar area. They contacted the CPI(ML)
[People’s war]. Under its leadership people got organised for bread, employment
and ‘izzat’(self respect). The party gave the call for capturing the ‘charjami’
and organised the peasants against the jotedars. The jotedars got afraid at the
organised strength of the peasants. Hence they hired the notorious dacoits and
lumpens, whose profession is creating terror through murder, dacoity, kidnap
etc. Khokan Mondal and Omar Sekh are sardars of one of these gangs. This is the
gang which have brutally murdered six revolutionary peasant activists. A
sizeable section of these hired hoodlums come from poor families. These people
out of their struggle for existence are forced to become hired goondas of the
jotedars. They are products of this rotten system. In various parts of West
Bengal the ruling class partys of differrent hues give patronage to these gangs
of dacoits and murderers in order to preserve the status quo. They are used in
the struggle for control of areas. They are also used against revolutionary
activists and peoples movements. Hence it is not possible to lead the
revolutionary movement without countering these reactionary elements. People’s
War concentrates its attack on the leaders of these gangs and tries to win over
to its side, the ordinary members of these gangs.
