Memorial Meeting of Dharakonda Martyrs

For the retaliation of the fake encounter of three central committee members of the CPI(ML)[People’s War] (Coms. Shyam, Mahesh and Murali), the PW Party’s guerrilla squads conducted several raids on the enemy. In one of the raids, i.e., in Dharakonda, though the guerrillas were able to seize a heavy catche of arms and ammunition from the enemy, they lost two guerrillas in that raid. The martyred guerrillas were Coms. Balakrishna and Satyanarayana. For the memory of these two martyrs a memorial meeting was organised under the Thandava LGS area. A martyrs’ column was built 5 feet heigh. The people from 16 villages numbering more than 500, with red banners, singing martyrs songs, shouting slogans participated in the memorial meeting. A brother of a former martyr (Com. Jambri) hoisted the flag on the martyrs’ column. Party member Vijay delivered the inaugural speech. He exposed the murderous deeds of the AP government. He reminded the people of the services of the fallen martyrs and described how they fought the enemy and were martyred. After his speech, Com. Bojjamma of the Adivasi Revolutionary Women’s Organisation spoke. She exposed the gimmicks of the Chandrababu Naidu government and the fake women welfare schemes. She said that on the one hand the AP government is organising Mahila Janmabhoomis and on the other, severely lathicharged the procession of anganwadi women teachers in Hyderabad. She exposed the police atrocities on girijan women explaining how a 15-member police batch gangraped a Kondu woman, Jumbo, in Mettuguda village. She also said that only with the arrival of a new society, all these atrocities on women will disappear and asked the people to fight for that new society where there is no inequalities. She concluded her speech by giving red salutes to the fallen martyrs.

After her speech, the president and seven other activists of the Adivasi Peasant Organisation spoke. They recollected the activities and intimacy with the martyrs. They explained the services and sacrifices of the two martyrs and how they fought for the people’s cause.

The meeting continued enthusiastically for 5 hours with songs, slogans and speeches.
