Medak district, of South Telangana, is an example
of the nature of police terror unleashed by the butcher Naidu government in AP.
In the Medak and Siddipet divisions of the naxalite-affected Medak district, the
police are organising meetings in the villages, euphemistically called
"Friendship Seminars" (Maitri Sadassulu) in a bid to terrorise the masses.
These "Maitri Sadassulu" are being organised in those villages that are
the stronghold of the PW, at which they issue threats to the underground
naxalites to surrender. At these meetings they openly state that they will
mercilessly kill the activists unless they surrender, luring them with a
rehabilitation package. Simultaneously, these meetings are used to gather the
lumpen elements, and utilise them to report on the movements of the naxalites.
In some places they have even provided weapons to these lumpen gangs and have
ordered them to kill the naxalites. The recent killing of militants in Irkode
village of Siddipet mandal was committed by these gangs. These gangs also commit
atrocities and robberies in the villages. Any who dare oppose them, are handed
over to the police, branding them with having links with the naxalites.
In collusion with these lumpen gangs, the police
are killing militants and creating an atmosphere of terror in the villages. The
police brutally torture militants before the entire village. They forcibly
gather the villagers and make them witness the torture. After this they shoot
the militant dead and fabricate the story of ‘encounter’.
During the past two months, three persons have been
killed in such ‘encounters.’
In the first week of December, one Prasad of a
Janashakti squad was killed by the police in Gajulapalli village of Doultabad
mandal. Prasad, a UG activist, was taking tea in a restaurant, when he noticed
the Doultabad SI, and locked himself in a room. The SI noticed this, forcibly
entered the house, and directly shot Prasad dead. After this the police spread
the usual tale of ‘encounter’, while the villagers who witnessed the murder say
that Prasad was unarmed.
The second incident took place in Katriala of
Ramayampet mandal. One Anjaiah, a farmer, was booked in the police records as a
People’s War sympathiser. Anjaiah had participated in a ‘Panchayat’
(people’s court) that took place in the village in the first week of January.
The police surrounded him and beat him mercilessly with sticks. He was then
brutally tortured in front of 200 people. By nightfall he was taken away. Next
day came the story ‘killed in encounter’. The villagers reported to the
magazine "Prajatantra" that they expected Anjaiah would be produced in
court, not imagining that the police would commit such a heinous crime.
The third incident occurred in February and created
a state-wide sensation. On a tip-off, the police took into custody a youth
called Dappula Suraiah of the RSU (Radical Student’s Union) at the Surampalli
village bus stop (Doultabad mandal). Several people witnessed the event, and the
information even reached journalists. The parents of Suraiah, approached the
local MLA, Sanjiva Rao, and expressed anxiety on their son’s safety. It is
reported that the civil liberties leaders sent telegrams to the chief justice of
the high court, the state DGP and the district SP expressing doubts regarding
his safety. When local journalists asked the Doultabad SI about Suraiah, he
denied any knowledge. Just then they heard shouts from the lock-up of a youth
being tortured. The same night the police killed Suraiah, and gave out the story
‘killed in encounter’. The police deliberately killed him, in a bid to
terrorise the local people.
Such then are the crimes of the cyber-fascist,
Naidu, in just one small area. These ‘Maitri Sadassulu’ are to be set up
in 1600 villages and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister himself. Though it is
being pedalled as a humanitarian excercise to curb gambling, prostitution,
illicit liquor, etc., it is nothing but an instrument to terrorise the masses
under the influence of the PW. In all the villages under the PW where such
‘MS’ are being set up, the organised masses have themselves put an end to
these evils. This, is yet another example of the fascist methods adopted by the
Naidu government. Behind the hi-tech mask, lies a maniacal killer. However much
the media and the Clintons, seek to white-wash this man with praise and
accolades, the bloodstains cannot be wiped off. The people will never forgive
him, for these crimes against humanity. |
