Oppose the Indian state’s reactionary attacks on the people!
Professor G.N. Saibaba was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by the Indian state for his outspoken defense of People’s movements and progressive political causes in India and internationally. He, and others under attack in India, are in urgent need of international support.
On June 3, 2017 in the Left Forum in New York City, supporters of progressive voices in India hosted a presentation and discussion about the arrest and life-sentence of Delhi University Professor GN Saibaba, as well as four other activists, for allegedly “waging war” against the Indian state and being a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). The only evidence of these charges came from intelligence officers and police agents.
At his trial, Professor Saibaba demonstrated that his “crime” was to criticize and organize legal movements against the Indian state. As a leading member of the Revolutionary Democratic Front, Saibaba has consistently advocated for the rights of landless and poor peasants, adivasi (indigenous) peoples, dalits (formerly called untouchables), workers, women, Muslims and progressive students and intellectuals.
