SATYAM — AN INDEFATAGIBLE WARRIOR
|
Satyam, forty years
ago, was born in a middle peasant family in Ustinapalli village of Anantpur
district, which ranks thirteenth in the most famine prone areas in the world. He
did his Intermediate course at Kadiri, a Tehsil town in the district. Later
completed his graduation in science at Tirupati. He did his Post graduate course
at S.K.University at Anantpur.
While he was in
Tirupati he was attracted to the Radical Students Union in the early eighties.
From then he was active and later continued his activism at Anantpur. Joining
the People’s War, he decided to work full time, he went to the countryside
organizing the rural poor. From then he stayed there in the countryside till his
last breath. He was there in all the ups and down of the party. The first and
second crisis in the party affected the Rayala Seema region. The second severely
affected the region. He stood steadfast to the correct line opposing the KS-Bandayya’s
conspiracies. He, along with other comrades, developed the organization which
was split badly because of KS-Bandayya factionalism.
Com. Satyam became
the District secretary and later he became the secretary of Rayala Seema
regional committee. He was elected into AP state committee at the 2000
conference. When the first military commission was formed at the state level, he
was in it.
Comrade Satyam went
to Rayala Seema region to attend the district committee meetings. Satyam, along
with Ganganna alias Praveen, secretary of Anantpur district committee and
another comrade Sivanand was arrested on Jan 23 rd
in a border town in Karnataka. While they were being carried in a vehicle, Com.
Praveen raised slogans indicating that they were arrested and asked people from
the vehicle to inform the journalists to prevent their killing. This news was
flashed on the news channels, but the Police vehemently denied it. But on the
same night, the three were killed point blank by the police showing two separate
encounters. Com. Satyam and Sivanand were killed at the Errakuntapalli crossing
which is 3 km from Peeleru of Chittore district. The bullet ridden bodies were
thrown near the Heritage Food Industries, owned by Chandra Babu Naidu’s wife.
Since the Police were
quite anxious to show results in the Alipiri case, where Chandra Babu Naidu
escaped a assassination attempt by the PGA of the CPI(ML)(PW), in which Com.
Satyam was also made an accused, the Police took no time in killing Satyam and
the two other comrades.
They spun a cock and
bull story that none believed. That Satyam and Sivanand while they were being
brought to Tirupati, though they were chained with handcuffs, they injured, took
the revolver of the Police officer and tried to escape while shooting the
police. Then the police prevailed upon them and shot. Satyam died immediately
and Sivanand died while being taken to hospital. The print media came vehemently
against the police for liquidating the people in an extra judicial manner.
Leading papers wrote editorials condemning the police’s nefarious killings.
Civil liberties organizations, other democratic organizations, condemned the
police story as false. A fact finding team from the International League of
People’s Lawyers which came to Andhra Pradesh in the third week of January 2004,
to investigate the human rights violations in AP also took note of this
incident. CB Naidu and his Khaki men did not care a hoot despite condemnation of
all sections of people. The police notoriety took an ugly turn when police
forged a letter from the CPI(ML)(PW), purported to be written by the secretary
of the state committee that Com. Satyam and others were in fact caught, as
Laxman, ex-secretary of APCLC gave information. Laxman was kidnapped by Nayeem
and his gang( the vigilantes) under the direction of AP Police some days before
this incident.
In the death of
Satyam, the revolutionary movement lost an indefatigable warrior of the
guerrilla army that is much needed in the liberation of our country. The soft
spoken but hard on the enemy — Satyam participated in all the military trainings
to improve his military skills.
More than two decades
ago, he left home and he never looked back. In the country side he led many a
peasant and agricultural labourers struggles and become quite popular with the
masses as well as cadre.
