Poems written after the Tupakullaguddam Encounter

(Translations from the original Telugu)

We must not cry,

however much we weep, our comrades will not come alive again......

As their blood flows into the Godavari,

Mother Godavari will kiss these children of revolution...............

They must be hungry in the river..............

So,

In the Chula built by using the 3 stones of imperialism, feudalism

and comprador bureaucrat capitalism,

Using the chopped police as wood for the fire,

Lighting the wood from a spark ignited from the intestines of the hungry,

Mother Telengana is brewing the Guerrilla Base in the cooking pot of revolution.

We will take this Guerrilla Base in our Tiffin boxes,

To feed our martyrs;

Only then will their hunger be satiated.

— AZAD

Blood spurted in the Encounter at Tupakullaguddam,

It flowed along the ups and downs in the land into the Godavari,

There, in the river, it rose like a fountain,

It flowed into the sea,

To became a mighty typhoon of martyr’s courage,

Bringing the land and sky together,

Crushing the enemy into the dust.

Then, with the raindrops,

Mother earth opened up,

To deliver the martyrs — reborn.

— AZAD

Through the air we breathe we sense the enemy’s movements,

Through our sight we assess the enemy as through a microscope and telescope,

We taste not the food given, but the feelings of the person giving it,

What we write must sing the sacrifices of these martyrs,

And, till the ink in our pen dries,

And bullets in our guns exhaust,

From their heroism literature will get created,

And this literature will keep them alive amongst us.

— AZAD

March 8 is hardly passed,

Then, you said women must gain freedom,

And Society liberated from bondage,

You went along this path.

One day I asked what you were reading,

you replied there was no time,

Due to the need to care for patients,

You had said you hoped to study at the camp.

Hardly had you said this,

that you became a martyr,

A Red Star.

Rajita, this will not go unavenged,

It will be repaid with interest.
