Oppose Us Imperialism’s War on Afghanistan

— Nitin

Another horrifying chapter is being added to the long list of US crimes against the people of the World. On the night of October 7, Sunday, the US and British imperialist death machines launched their first war of the millennium by attacking half a dozen cities of poor Afghanistan and declared that this war will go on for a long time and other countries too would come under attack. The juggernaut to crush peoples and countries, which refuse to follow all US dictates, has started in the region stretching from Central Asia to the Middle East.

The attacks have begun in and around the cities that bring all controversies to rest that the US’s target is Osama bin Laden. The immediate target has already stretched from the capture of Osama to the crushing of the Taliban and a change of Government in Kabul. But things are not to stop at that; the future government in Kabul must be one that should follow US dictates and give the US all facilities to act as a staging ground to establish its hegemony in the region and make way for a US Central Command (that controls US military affairs in the Persian Gulf) to operate in oil rich Central Asia. Forget the terrorist strikes on the twin towers in New York where about six thousand civilians died. The ‘new war’ or ‘the first war of the millennium’ aims at killing tens of thousands of civilians not only in Afghanistan but also in many other countries; probably Syria, Iraq, Iran and may be Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and others. The US has commenced a war on the peoples of the third world countries and not against the "terrorists". It has forced the governments around the world to provide intelligence information and all have behaved as subsidiaries of the FBI. It is a reciprocal. Earlier, the CIA had been providing the lists of those to be killed in cold blood to the murderous dictators and running dogs of the US in the third world. Now the master himself is on a worldwide campaign to strike terror. Nobody knows what will be the fate in the coming days, of those governments that are today collaborating with the US. The imperialist bloodhounds are on the prowl forcing, bullying, bribing and threatening all and sundry. The US has no friends anywhere, only interests and murderous ambitions.

The US is well aware of the fact that the attacks on Afghanistan is going to destabilise the whole region and may trigger such developments that will require its military involvement for a long time to come. The US president and his administration is continuously asking the American people to prepare themselves for a long and sustained "campaign" and is clamping all kinds of restrictions on the liberty of people. A new ministry of home affairs has been formed in anticipation of a continued need that will arise on the home front to control opposition from the people there. War abroad and fascist measures at home is the answer of the US ruling class to the acts of retribution that came on September 11. The already hated US is bound to earn the ire of millions upon millions of people as it will further alienate itself through its barbarity. And this will also include the people’s right in the US. It can be said that another nemesis is in the making in the US after the Vietnam War, perhaps on a much bigger scale.

And definitely, this will depend on the course of events that will be emanating and snowballing from the hills of Afghanistan to the adjoining Islamic countries. It will also disrupt the balance of forces on a world scale, despite the fact that the whole of Europe and Russia have "supported" the US in its "war on terrorism".

After the very first day of the US attack on Afghanistan the people of different political ideologies, prominent among them the Muslim populations of countries across Asia and Africa, have started demonstrating against the US and British imperialists. From, as far as the Philippines in the east, to Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the west of Asia, protest voices and militant rallies and demonstrations have started gathering momentum.

The people in Palestine, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Indonesia, the Philippines and Bangladesh were the first to come on to the streets to protest. Everywhere, the governments have had to use force to control the people. Pakistan is especially in a volatile situation where all the cities and towns are witnessing non-stop protests and clashes with the police forces. Three were killed in Pakistan and the dirty US cop, Yassir Arafat, in Palestine, killed another three on Monday, October 8.

In Afghanistan millions of people are under the threat of dislocation. Hundreds and thousands have already deserted their homes. Hundreds of people are reported killed in Kabul and other cities in the first few days of the US attacks. Both the world imperialist media and the Taliban authorities are downplaying the deaths of the civilians—the US, to show to the world that its targets are not the ordinary people of Afghanistan, and the Taliban with the purpose of not to scare its own people, to avoid a collapse of its own oppressive social structure.

As the days pass, destruction in Afghanistan will be less as there is not much left to be destroyed after 22 years of continuous war, and deaths more, from bombs and starvation, as there will not be much food to eat and the non availability of medicines and hospitals for the injured. It is a terrible and despicable absurdity of the imperialist mind that it has thought of and dared to drop food packets along with the rain of missiles and bombs to show that this deadly beast ‘cares for the hungry’. Actually it wants to see people fight like animals over a piece of bread. This farcical attempt will do it no benefit and won’t be able to hide its criminal offensive.

New York, Washington and London too saw protest demonstrations against the war on a poor country, on the very next day of the attacks. The demonstrators declared, at the top of their voices, "We do not want a war against an already devastated country," and, "No revenge for attacks on the Towers." As the days pass, the protests in the US and throughout the so-called civilized world of the imperialists, is also set to grow as people there are not one with their imperialist rulers and are bound to further understand their criminal nature.

At the US aggression, some governments have feared and balked, some others have shamelessly welcomed the aggression, still others are supportive but are afraid of the possible backlash from their own subjects and have chosen to clandestinely help in this war. The shameless have been India, the Palestinian Authority headed by Yassir Arafat, and the Zionist State of Israel, who are openly collaborating in the US’s war. The clandestine coterie of supporters belongs to the reactionary Gulf kingdoms and countries like Egypt and Jordan. And the ones who have yielded under threats and doles and have decided to actively cooperate with the US, comprise Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Tajikistan etc. Iran, which is apprehensive of the US designs in the region, has condemned the aggression. Condemnations have also come from Iraq and Sudan [though it has actually decided to side with the US and has received the bonus of the lifting of sanctions, but is still afraid of it] who fear that they might also be attacked in the next phase. Governments of the countries like Malaysia and Indonesia want the US operation cleanly conducted so as not to cause disturbances in their own lands. The Organisation of Islamic Conference and the Arab League have given a go-ahead to the US despite some opposition from Iraq and Syria. They have servilely "demanded" that civilian casualties should be avoided. Opportunists like China have supported the US and requested it to "spare the civilians." The rest of the third world governments have more or less chosen to let the US have its way because they have little stakes in the region. The advanced capitalist countries have welcomed the US-British onslaught on Afghanistan. Among them, especially Russia, and also France and Germany, will be closely watching the unfolding of events and determine their behaviour accordingly. For the time being, they are supporting the US in a limited way. It is mainly the US and Britain who have taken up the "white man’s burden" to brutally "civilize" the uncivilized peoples of the oppressed countries.

Given the behaviour of the reactionary rulers of the third world countries the people have to direct their agitation against their own rulers to stop them from supporting the US’s war. They have to make preparations for launching civil wars against them by taking advantage of the situation that may lead to the arousal of millions against the war.

India too is preparing for launching a war against Pakistan in the name of "rooting out terrorism" in Kashmir and is readying itself for drowning the struggle of the Kashmiri and other peoples in a sea of blood. The Indian rulers are out to crush all democratic and dissenting voices against war and are enflaming the rising communal tensions in the country. It is time to understand the Indian rulers’ designs behind their euphoric support for the worldwide terror campaign of the US imperialists. It is time to launch a countrywide movement against US imperialism and its Indian lackeys; and to intensify the people’s war in the country, being led by the CPI(ML)(PW), to crush by force the tyrannical rule of the oppressors.
