People Thrash ‘Janmabhoomi’ Officials

The recent Janmabhoomi started by the World Bank-stooge Chandrababu Naidu is facing resistance from the people through out AP. The increased price of essential commodities and the recent hike in power tariff resulted in people taking up more militant demonstrations all over the state. This was recently witnessed in Nizamabad district. The Janmabhoomi nodal team of Domakonda mandal of Nizamabad district (North Telanagana) started in vehicles for Sangameshwar village to conduct a gram sabha as part of this fake Janmabhoomi programme on the 5th of August. As soon as the vehicles entered the village and went to the gram panchayat office, people gathered in large numbers, stopped the vehicles and asked why they had not solved the problems raised during the past gram sabhas. The nodal officer tried to hail the Janmabhoomi programme. The irate villagers raised slogans and prevented the team from getting down from the vehicle and threw cow dung at the vehicle and showed broomsticks to the nodal team. They protested against severe power cuts, the unprecedented power tariff hike and the drinking water crisis confronting the village. They gheraoed the nodal team and did not budge when the officials pleaded that the gram sabha should be conducted. The nodal team then, threateningly tried to hold gram sabha.

Then the situation took a dramatic turn as the villagers tried to drag the nodal officer out of the jeep. The officials were assaulted in the melee. The Domakonda SI, who was there, rushed to their rescue, only to be pushed down to the ground and beaten up severely by the villagers. The people even applied cow dung on his face. The villagers then announced their decision to boycott the gram sabha and asked the nodal team to leave the place. The humiliated nodal officials went back to the mandal headquarters and lodged a complaint with the police. The police swooped down on the village, the next day and arrested 16 persons and took them away to Domakonda police station. Again more than 200 people of Sangameshwar village gathered and organised a rasta roko at Domakonda mandal headquarters and staged a dharna in front of the police station demanding the release of the arrested. Fearing the people’s resistance the police produced all the arrested people in court.
