 In 1999, the
CPI(ML)[PW] decided to form an Action Team to counter the enemy who had launched
a savage offensive inflicting severe losses to the party in AP.
The Action Team
comrades who were martyred were: Com. Laxman, Com. Jaheer, Com. Krishna, Com.
Praveen and Com. Shankar. All these comrades are SAC (Squad Area Committee)
level comrades in the party. Of the above five comrades, Com. Laxman was
martyred in Mahaboobnagar district (South Telangana) in March, 1999 (this
comrade was selected to the Action Team but had not joined it, as he was
martyred before its formation). The remaining four comrades were martyred on
14th April, 2000 in Hyderabad city. Another sympathiser comrade, Com. Madhu, was
also martyred along with the above comrades. The police fired with automatic
weapons, on the auto in which Coms. Jaheer, Praveen and auto driver Madhu were
travelling unarmed. These three comrades were martyred there itself. Com.
Krishna and Com. Shankar were separately caught by the police on the same day
and killed in a fake encounter.
When the party
selected them to the Action Team, all these comrades firmly expressed their
preparedness to perform their duty by sacrificing their lives if necessary. When
they came to Hyderabad city, they only knew the railway station and bus stand.
Yet, they maintained dens with a good cover. They studied day and night the
enemy’s movements, his checking places, his network, his security arrangements.
They attended several VIP programmes under cover. They skillfully used the
communication network. They learnt to drive a Motor byke and auto in the crowded
city streets. Several times they had got close to arrest, but escaped the
checking barons with creative talk. Though city life corrupts the youth with bad
cultural habits, these comrades never fell to those bad habits though they had
plenty of money in their pockets. All these comrades had different skills and
abilities in different spheres. They developed and sharpened these skills and
created fear in the hearts of the enemy. They skilfully studied the weak points
of the enemy in the Umesh Chandra and Madhava Reddy actions and succeeded in
giving severe blows to the enemy. They smashed the cruel IGP, Umesh Chandra in
the heart of Hyderabad city. They annihilated former AP Home Minister, a cruel
enemy of the people, Madhava Reddy, in a mine blast. They showed how the PW
party will avenge the cold-blooded enemies of the people. They are the bravest
heroes who killed the ‘tiger’ in its own den. They stand in the columns of the
courageous people’s heroes who smashed the reactionaries and hated people’s
enemies. Below we will give brief biographic sketch of these comrades.
Comrade Laxman
Com. Venkata Ramana (Laxman,
Murali) (22 years) was born in a poor peasant family in Balepalyam village of
Kanaganapalli mandal of Anantapur district. He was the eldest son in the family.
Com. Venkata Ramana was influenced by his father, who is a leader and
revolutionary activist of the mass organisation in that village.
Com. Venkata Ramana
stood on the side of the dalits when high caste hoodlums attacked dalits with
high-caste chauvinism in his village. He opposed the activities of the splinter
pseudo-ML goonda gang of Suresh (a stooge of landlord Paritala Ravi).
Com. Venkata Ramana
studied upto the 10th and became a full time activist in March 1995. In
February, ’97, Com. Laxman enthusiastically took up the responsibility to work
in the regional special squad of the South Coastal Andhra-Rayalaseema Region. He
participated with revolutionary fervour in the annihilation programme of the
Vempenta landlord, Sivaiah. He performed his duties as a pilot for his squad and
efficiently acquired knowledge of the Nallamala forests. On seeing his
militancy, firmness in actions, the AP State Committee selected him to the
Action Team. Com. Laxman immediately accepted the new responsibilities. In
March, ’99 when Com. Mahesh (AP-SC secretary) and other leading comrades were
travelling in Mahaboobnagar district, the enemy planned an ambush. Com. Laxman
was in the defence team of that squad. He fought heroically and was martyred,
along with Com. Laxmakka and saved senior leaders of the party.
Comrade Jaheer
Com. Ramesh Kumar (Jaheer,
Bhima) was a native of Rayachoti town of Cuddapah district. He was the only son
to his parents. He was called Bhima by his friends.
Com. Bhima’s father
was an army person. From his childhood, Com. Bhima did exercises, participated
in sports and built his body. When he was studying in Rayachoti town, he fought
several times the goonda gangs of that town, when they indulged in atrocities on
small bunkers and tea hotel owners. Once, the goondas collectively came with a
planned attack on him. But Com. Bhima, without fear, drew his knife from his
belt. On seeing his ferociousness the goons disappeared from the scene in
seconds.

Com. Jaheer
When he was studying
for the Intermediate, he came in touch with the revolutionary politics of the
RSU (Radical Students Union). Though he got a railway police job, he rejected
it, and joined the party.
Com. Jaheer was
naturally a daring person. Any action team, drew confidence from his very
presence. He participated in the annihilation of informer Udum Hari in Rayachoti.
He smashed goonda Shiva Shankar Reddy, who attacked the workers of Madanapalli
spinning mill. He participated in the annihilation of a people’s enemy and bad
gentry, Bhasha, in Kalahasti. He exposed before the public, the traitor
Narasimhulu, who was involved in covert operations at the behest of SP Umesh
Chandra (this SP later served as SP of Karimnagar, became IG and was killed by
our Action Team in Hyderabad city).
Com. Jaheer became a
SAC member within a short time after his recruitment into the party. He made
enormous efforts to develop his abilities. On seeing his interest in military
affairs, he was taken into the special squad of the region. He attended several
military camps and developed as a good instructor and demonstrator. He was an
instructor to the women comrades, in unarmed combat training, held at the SC
camp of October 1999.
Com. Jaheer’s role in
the Action Team’s programmes was commendable. He was the deputy commander in the
IG Umesh Chandra action. He had seized the sten of Umesh Chandra’s security
guard.
Besides, Com. Jaheer
is an ideal example for his hospitality, friendliness and service nature. He
carried many comrades who were seriously ill during journies in the forest. He
was very simple in his dress. Though he was doing recky (reconnaissance) work in
the city, he regularly studied the newspapers. He also learnt car driving and
made enormous effort to learn Hindi and English which were necessary for city
life and actions.
Comrade Krishna
Com. Busarapu Shankar
(Krishna, Bhaskar)(25 years) was a native of Srirampur town of Adilabad
district. He came from a poor workers family. He studied upto the 10th and had
gone to Bhongir (Nalgonda district) and completed ITI there. After completing
ITI, he joined the Intermediate (in 1993) and came into party contact. He
actively did party work while staying in his house at Srirampur. He participated
in many protest actions when encounters took place in Singareni. As the
repression increased, he left his studies and joined as a full time activist in
end 1994. He played a main role in the action of weapon seizure from the CISF
police in Singareni. Several times he escaped police firings. He participated in
smashing several informers. He took part in the annihilation of the cruel ASI
Madanmohan and two head constables in the Singareni area and greatly increased
the morale of the Singareni working class. Daring, class hatred, initiative,
having general political knowledge, coming to correct estimations — were the
special characteristics of this comrade. All these qualities resulted in him
being selected to the Action Team. Com. Krishna played an important role in the
two actions conducted by the Action Team. He remembered all the bus route
numbers, all the vehicle numbers of VIPs, pilots and escort vehicles. He played
a main role in the Madhava Reddy action. With his past connections in Bhongir
town, he started recky work there. He attended all the meetings of Madhava Reddy
in Bhongir constituency and in Hyderabad city. He participated in all the
programmes of Madhava Reddy in the City under cover. After Madhava Reddy’s
action, Com. Krishna did recky regarding another VIP and submitted it to his
higher party person, some hours before his martyrdom.
After hearing the
news of Comrade Jaheer, Praveen and Madhu’s martyrdom on TV at 12’O Clock at
night, Com. Krishna again phoned his commander (one hour earlier he had met the
commander), he mentioned the news of the encounter and arranged an appointment
with the commander. He did not realise that he was already under theobservation
of the enemy. When he went to his den at 12-10 at night, the police arrested him
and shot him dead the next day afternoon (15-4-2000) in Peddapalli town of
Karimnagar district declaring him an unidentified person. Though the police
tortured him the whole night, Com. Krishna revealed nothing to the enemy. The
commander, without knowing of Com. Krishna’s arrest, had gone to the appointment
place. But Com. Krishna had not mentioned a word, in the torture.
Comrade Praveen
Com. Praveen was
recruited from the Adilabad organisation. He came from a poor peasant family. He
studied only upto the 3rd standard. But after coming into the party he learnt
much. He worked for some time as a member of a guerrilla squad in Adilabad
district. After seeing his interest in the military field, he was first taken to
the special squad of Adilabad district. He participated in the single action
programmes conducted in the district.
Com. Praveen was a
good actor. He played student and women roles in the street plays performed by
the squad. When he was selected to the Action Team and doing the work, he heard
the news of his step brother’s encounter. But he was not shaken. He was always
good in sentry duty and in placing mines. He played an important role in the
Umesh Chandra action. Com. Praveen never missed appointments. He attended the
appointment place at exactly the correct time. The appointment he missed with
his commander was the appointment after his martyrdom. In view of his
non-presence at the appointment place, the commander immediately doubted that
some thing had occurred to Com. Praveen. That was Com. Praveen’s revolu- tionary
discipline.
Com. Shankar
Com. Salvachari (Shankar)
was a native of Inol village of Atchampet mandal of Mahaboobnagar district. He
hailed from a middle class family. He studied upto the 10th. His father was a
carpenter. By helping his father in his work, he joined the Intermediate and
participated in mass organisation activities. He stopped his studies because of
his exposure to the enemy. He played a major role in exposing the revisionist
politics of the CPI(M) in his village. He became a leader of the mass
organisation in that village. Landlords, goons tried to kill him. But he
repulsed them with bombs. The landlords and bad gentry fled to the city. After
seeing his interest in military affairs, he was taken to the Action Team. He
learnt auto-driving in Hyderabad city and maintained his den with an auto-driver
cover. Though, Com. Shankar seemed to be a lean and thin person, he was firm in
all actions. He had even gone near the house of Kattula Sammaiah’s (the traitor
who killed 3 squad members in Karimnagar district) house for recky purposes.

Com. Shankar
Com. Shankar always
put much effort on studying. He always put his study in a question-answer form
written in his note book. He got married just before his selection to the Action
Team. He was always in the forefront of all collective work. He always observed
and analysed every thing with a critical outlook.
Com. Shankar was
arrested on 14-4-2000 at 10-15 P.M. at Kukatpalli bus stand in Hyderabad city.
He had met his commander only some minutes before. The police tortured him the
whole night. Com. Shankar revealed nothing to the enemy though he knew the
movements of his commander. The police killed him near traitor Kattula
Sammaiah’s house.
Comrade Madhu
Com. Muthyalu (Madhu)
hails from the Tenkampet village in Daultabad mandal of Medak district. He was
the eldest son to his parents. He came from a middle class Padmasali family. He
studied only upto the 7th. He came into party contact when he was in his
village. He became a leader and strengthened the mass organisation in his
village. He also grew as a member of the area body of the Revolutionary peasants
organisation. As repression increased, he joined as a full timer in the party
and worked for some time in a squad. In the mean time he succeeded in performing
a town action. As repression increased on his family, the party decided to shift
his family to Hyderabad city. Com. Madhu began his tech work with the cover of a
tailor profession. He transported several weapons to the party in unfavourable
conditions under the scrutiny of the enemy.
Though Com. Madhu was
not a member of the Action Team, the party decided to use his house as the
Action Team’s shelter. Com. Madhu also put a proposal that he would like to be a
member of the Action Team.
* * *
Today, if the enemy
has to be successfully countered, it is necessary to hit their chiefs in their
own strongholds. For this, a number of such action teams are necessary. The
comrades martyred in this Action Team were brilliant examples for others to
emulate. Fired with a burning class-hatred, they virtually entered the enemy’s
den, with a calmness and confidence, that are pre-requisites for such actions.
Their martyrdom is best avenged, by the creation of numerous such teams.
