The Red Star

The Red Star is a bi-weekly magazine published by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), formerly known as the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).

This magazine has by no means been banned in Nepal. In fact, the party publishing it was for a short period the leading party in the government! However, there have been efforts by reactionaries to block access to the magazine on the Internet, either by sabotaging the krishnasenonline.org site where it is posted, or else by at least claiming that this site has been sabotaged and that it is dangerous to visit it. Therefore we at BANNEDTHOUGHT.NET decided to also make the magazine available here.

The most recent issues are at the top. All the issues which have been published as one complete file, in either the PDF or MS Word formats, are now available here starting with vol. 1, #1 (Nov. 8, 2007).

Update (September 2009):   We have both bad news and good news. The bad news is that The Red Star seems to have stopped publishing regular formal issues in English, at least issues which are available in their entirety in a PDF or MS Word format. Those issues listed below include all those available in this complete format. On the other hand, The Red Star now has a revamped website, free of problems with malicious software, which posts individual articles in English. It is located at: http://krishnasenonline.org/main/index.php?pubid=87

Update (July 2010):   The UCPN(M) is once again making new issues of The Red Star available in PDF format. We are posting the ones we have access to below.

— NOTICE —

Due to the repressive legislation and judicial decisions in the United States, we at BANNEDTHOUGHT.NET want to make it completely clear that we do not have any connection whatsoever with the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), or with any other party in Nepal or any other country for that matter. We do not aid, promote, assist, support, coordinate with, or provide any sort of services or advice to the UCPN(Maoist) or to any other party. However, we do support the right of free speech, and the right of the people in both Nepal and internationally to read the views and publications of this and all other parties and organizations. For this reason we do object to the de facto suppression of the views and ideas put forward by the UCPN(Maoist), either past or present. And for this reason alone we are making copies of many UCPN(Maoist) documents available on this site, along with those by many of its leaders, critics and other commentators.
